The ex-president of the Orpheum Theatre appeared in court Monday for his first appearance with an attorney.
Joshua J. Damewood, 25, Monmouth, is charged with two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse in connection with alleged sexual acts exchanged between Damewood and a teenage boy in October 2012.
On Monday, Judge James Standard relayed the Class 2 felony charges to Damewood, who appeared in court after previously being released on $15,000 bond.
Damewood is accused of sexually abusing a teenager who told police the incident occurred on the theater?s stage, two months after Damewood was named president and managing director of the Orpheum.
Damewood is being represented by public defender Karl Johnson.
He is scheduled to appear in court at 2 p.m. Feb. 26 for his preliminary hearing. If convicted of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, he could face a prison sentence of three to seven years and/or a fine of $25,000.
Damewood was named president and managing director of the Orpheum Theatre in August 2012 after serving in the position on an interim basis since April.
He was fired from the Orpheum on Jan. 2, just days after turning himself in to police Dec. 29, 2012.
